CP+B and MTV and SoBe

5 things about being So ME in SoBe:
  1. I heard yesterday from a bartender at Dewey's Tavern (conveniently across from the school ) that Miami-Dade County has the highest percentage of mentally-ill people in the Nation. Is this true?
  2. Black people have great pronouns: I'm "Baby" at the Target fitting room and I'm "Mama" on a Miami beach bus.
  3. You can get picked up by a very attractive man in a shiny high-end luxury car at the bus stop - NO, i didn't get in, geez.
  4. The tap water is very drinkable.
  5. Art Deco Weekend is this weekend. "Art Deco Weekend is one of South Florida’s most well-known and highly attended festivals." (mdpl.com) "The art deco movement drew inspiration from the modern art movements, particularly the concept of multiple points of view of cubism, and the themes of machines and motion in futurism. Art deco also tried to hint at other art forms, like jazz and swing music and the dance fashions of the era." (www.architectureweek.com)

Tuesday evenings I have class from 7-10p with Jamie Webb, a Planner from Crispin Porter Bogusky (CP+B). Some of you might know the agency or their work - Burger King's "The King," Miller Lite's "Man Laws," and Slim Jim's Snapalopes. Jamie had some great things to say about planning and strategizing:
  • Find the point where Culture and a Brand CLASH> this is where you want to be with an idea or concept.
  • Give concepts that people want to get their fingers in, mess with and make their own.
  • There are cultures around everything.
After this great new round of information, my brain was running all over the place. We got set up in teams: 2 planners with an advanced Art Director student and Copywriter. We spent an hour brainstorming "What might MTV be if it wasn't a broadcaster" in a purple and poster-filled room in the school. WOW, all of our minds were racing as we came up with idea and option after idea and option. What we all agreed upon shook our worlds, hehehe. It sounds crazy I know, but the creative process works in mysterious ways. When you find an idea that has potential and sticking power and a bit of revolution to it, you've got a winner. Now we just need to execute it in creative and presentation. Stay tuned...
